Getting ready For the Enlightenment of Winter Days

October 31, 2012  by: Paulose  Points: 20   Category: Others    Views: 485

Seasons change. They come one by one with new messages. They demand change from our side too. We have to change according to the change of the seasons. They are also reminder for the end of human destiny.

It is Fall in my place now. This is the second fall for me. In the tropical countries it may not be felt so much. But in countries which are away from the equator, the imaginary line that divides the earth into the northern and southern hemispheres, Fall has a very deep meaning. It is really a new experience that fills us with thoughts and joy.

Fall in our yard

The arrival of Fall has reddened the leaves of the trees in our yard. Cooling green of hope has changed into frightening red. Nature gets ready for the cold winter. All kinds of plants, animals and birds get ready fro the darkness of winter.

Nature getting ready

Soon the leaves will shiver and fall. While all the living beings go for heavy coats and covering, these poor trees will have to stand, bearing the weight of snow and piercing cold of the winter. They will appear like scary white witches of the winter.

The animals which have been playing on the trees will have to hide somewhere. My chipmunk friends are busy getting ready for the winter. As the weather gets colder, days get shorter and leaves turn color, I can see the animals busy running here and there. The chipmunks and squirrels which had been playing in front of our house are busy collecting nuts falling from the maples and other trees in front of our yard. I am still wondering how fast the chipmunks are collecting the last cherry tomatos of my garden. The deers that used to visit my garden occasionally are not seen now. They should have gone somewhere in search of warmer shelters. I was told that beavers and squirrels store lots of food they can eat all winter and deer and rabbits go out in search of food under the snow.
Oh, wonderful nature!

Am I ready for the winter?

When I see these plants and other living beings get ready for the winter many questions arise in my mind about the human winter. Fall season celebrate the festivals of Halloween, All Saints Day, All Souls Day and Thanksgiving Day. Do they have any meaning in the Fall?

Physically getting ready

Having spent the hot summer and most of the days of fall in outdoor activities, will I have to hibernate in the winter? Will my lazy limbs tend to curl up and sit in a cornet? Will the cold weather make me spend the days in watching TV and adding pounds? Will my calories go high and weaken my immunity unable to fight with the seasonal flu? Will the growing conditions of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) fill me with negative symptoms such as depression, sleep problems, lethargy, and mood changes? How can I release my Serotonin, Epinephrine, Nor-epinephrine and Endorphins, natural chemicals which my body releases to improve my moods and protect me from more dangerous health problems? How can I push the winter blues that are already frightening me?

Spiritually getting ready

Am I ready for my eternal winter? As Rig Veda says, “Scatter not his skin, nor his body; when you have prepared him well, O Jatvedas, then send him to our forefathers, when he proceeds to that world of spirits,”(Rig Veda 10-1-16) will I be able to see the Eternal Light Whom I celebrate in Winter?

Yes I will. I will not fall! I will rise up to enjoy that Light!
