Pack Your Child a Healthy Lunch

Packing lunch to the school going child is a global problem today. Most of the parents are shocked when they find their children have not eaten anything from their lunch box. Some kids would have just nibbled a little and brought back the rest. Some children would have thrown the content into waste. Just read on these few lines to meet your challenge.

         

Packing lunch to the school going child is the most challenging task to the modern mom. Making the child eat something in the morning and preparing him/her to get ready for school with the lunch box... Oh, how much hectic! Morning dawns to most of the moms with the worry, “What shall I pack in my child’s lunch box today?” Most of the moms start the day hopefully that they had packed a good healthy lunch for their children but end the day with whining of their children and uneaten food in the lunch box.

Packing lunch to school is really a challenge

When the mom finds that child has not eaten what she packed for his lunch, she is much worried and it is a serious health problem for the child. Unsuccessful packing lunch means frustration for the mom as well as for the child. Here are a few tips to pack healthy lunch that your child will eat.

Ten tips to pack healthy lunch that your child will like to eat

1) Pack the lunch box with food that your child will like to eat. At the same time you have to choose items that would provide balanced nutrition. A typical lunch includes a low-fat dairy product, a protein food, and a fruit. It can be a combination of meat, egg, peanut butter, tuna, bread and crackers. Children usually like these items.

2) A milk combination can be a choice for beverage. It supplies the calcium children need most. High-sugar and high-calorie drinks should be avoided. Water can replace beverages.

3) Purchase foods that your child likes. It can be in three categories: 1) foods such as lean meat, bread, eggs, etc. 2) fruits,and 3) vegetables. Choose at least one from each daily.

4) Children always compare what others eat. Perhaps they may have their own choice. Talk to them to find out their choice. Children may involve in purchasing foods for their lunch box. But you should see if it is balanced in nutrition.

5) Make the packing colorful. Children appreciate colors and designs. Varieties and textures make them like their food.

6) Lunch can be packed with creative ideas. For example, You can sprinkle raisins over a celery stick smeared with peanut butter and make it into a creative “ants on a log”.

7) Provision of dips for fruits and vegetables will be appealing to children. Frozen and dried fruits can be chosen if fresh ones are not available.

8) Favorite soups, and drinks can be packed in thermos during cold season. Soups of beans and vegetables are ideal.

9) You should be careful in keeping the lunch foods stay in good condition when the child eats it. Children will not like saggy and unappealing things at their lunch time. Hot should be hot and cold should be cold.

10) Most important of all these tips is the time sense of lunch break and the ability of your child to eat what you have packed.

Make your child’s lunch break an additional fun time with the things you send him in his packing. Children usually would like to sit together and make the lunch break a pleasant time.
