Here is a strategy that enables you enjoy foods that you like by preparing your mind to tackle the stigma carefully.

November is dedicated to the awareness of diabetes, a disease growing in the modern world at an epidemic speed. Diabetes is a disease that pulls you back from eating certain foods. The thought of the disease goes before you like a bridle on the horse’s head.
There are some foods that adversely affect your blood sugar levels of which you may not be aware. There are many diabetes-friendly foods you may avoid unwillingly, fearing that they may affect your diabetes. Here is a successful strategy that helps you cast away the prejudice and fear of increasing sugar level. This strategy enables you to enjoy the food you eat.

Tips for diabetic patients to enjoy their diet

1) Understand the purpose of diet restrictions
Remember that the restrictions in your diet are meant not only for preventing the chances of increase in blood sugar levels but also for your pleasant health. Some foods have a greater impact on your blood sugar levels than others. Your goal is to keep your blood sugar levels stable on a consistent basis.

2) Know how your sugar level increases
There are certain spikes that increase your blood sugar levels which lead to complications such as nerve damage, kidney damage or other diabetic problems. Two factors decide your blood sugar level: the quantity of sugar that a food contains and the the nature of sugar absorption into your blood. If your body absorbs sugar fastly, your sugar level also will increase fastly.

3) Energy balance and excess in carbohydrates
Excess in carbohydrate increases blood sugar level. Many people think that eating means eating only carbohydrate foods. They never think of other nutrients. It is true that carbohydrate provides the energy for oxidative metabolism. In addition to that carbohydrate foods provide the necessary micronutrients and phytochemicals. If the food contains more carbohydrate, it may yield more calories than what you need, and would lead to weight gain and increase in blood sugar level.

4) Enjoy food
Change your prejudice and fear that whatever you eat may increase your sugar level. Enjoy your food with all your senses. Let your fear about diabetes be positive. Do not ask others, “Will this increase my blood sugar?” That shows your fear of food.

5) Avoid prejudice and fear
Avoid the thought of “good food” and “bad food”. Remember all foods can fit into a healthy diet, provided you keep a balance in eating. Use nutrition information to choose your foods. Make your diet enjoyable with variety and moderation.

Diabetes patients can enjoy their diet if the overcome their fear and prejudice about foods. By moderate and balanced diet they can follow healthy food habits and enjoy their diet.
