Many of you heard the phrase "globaL warming ". In easy words, global warming happens when greenhouse gases ( carbon dyoxide, water vapour, nitrous oxyde, methane ) trap heat and light from the sun in earth's atmosphere, which increases the temperature.

global warming is like when heat is trapped in a car. on a very hot day, the car gets hotter when it is hot out in the parking lot. this is because the heat and light can get into the car through windows, but can't back out.

waht is it doingg in the environment?

global warming is effecting many parts of the world. it causes sea rise, temperature rising of water, destroys many forests and it is linked to acid rain.

1. rise in the sea levels: scientists predict that increase of sea level due to the melting of two massive ice sheets in atlantica and greenland. many nations are at stake for it. the Maldives, is already looking for a new home.

2. more killer storms: global warming is increasing the intensity of the most extreme storms worldwide. speeds of cyclones increased significantly since 1981.

3. massive crop failures: there is 90% chance that 3 billion people will have to choose between moving their families to milder climes and going hungry due to climate change. it threatens food production, reduce sanitation, hinder economic development and damage ecosystems. global warming causes 300000 deaths a year.

4. widespread extinction of species: by 2050, rising temperature could lead to the extinction of more than a million species.

5. disappearence of coral reefs : coral population will collapse by 2100 due to increased temperatures and ocean acidification are closing in like a pair of jaws that threaten to make them first global ecosystem to disappaer.

1. carbon dyoxide emissions from fossil fuel burning powerplant:
electricity from coal burning power plants release enormous amounts of carbon dyoxide into the atmosphere. 40% of carbon dyoxide come from electricity production and burning coal.

2.burning gasoline for transportation : with our population growing at an alarming rate, the demand for more cars and consumer goods means that we ae increasing the use of fossil fuels for transportation and manufacturing.

3.methane emissions from animals, agriculture: methane is another extremly potent greenhouse gas, rankikng behind carbon dyoxide. when organic matter is broken down by bacteria under oxygen-starved conditions as in rice paddies, methane is produced. another source of methane is methane clathrate, a compound containing large amounts of methane trapped in the crystal structure of ice.

4.deforestation: th:e uses of forest for fuel, our appetite for wood and paper products, consumption of livestock grazed on former forest land, palm oil plantations etc are the causes of deforestation. forests remove and store carbon dyoxyde from the atmosphere and this deforestation releases large amount of carbon dyoxyde.

5. increase in usage of chemical fertilizers: in the last half of the 20th century, the usage of chemical fertilizers has risen dramatically. the high rate application of nitrogen rich fertilizers has effects on the heat storage of cropland. ( nitrogen dyoxyde have 300 times more heat trapping capacity per unit of volume than carbon dyoxyde.)

1. reduce energy use: the energy use at home and office contributes to increased level of carbon dyoxyde. by reducing our energy use, you can reduce your carbon footprint. changing out standard lightbulbs for compact fluroscent or LED lights, which use up to 75% less energy and last longer.

2. update buying habits: the EPA recommends buyong energy star-certified products, which are designed to efficient and last longer. when you throw used items away, try to recycle them to another source so that they dont end up in a landfill.try to compost left over food scraps.

3. change transportation habits: transpportation, in particular, car travel is responsible for about 25% of energy use in the US. to reduce your energy use, change your driving habits. take public transportation, walk or ride a bike. keep your car maintained so that it van run efficiently.dont drive aggresively.

4. stop deforestation: deforestation is a major contribute to global warming. when large expanses of forests are cut down or burned, carbon dyoxyde is released into tne atmosphere. look for wood products that have FSC-US forest management standard to ensure hat your buying behaviors are not contributing to deforestation.

global warming presents the gravest threat to life on earth in all of human history. the planet is warming continuously everyday, many species cant handle the temperature. reduce of food sources, causing draught and other species-harming severe weather events and directly killing species that simply cant handle the heat. scientists predict that if we keeep going along our current greenhouse gas emmisions, climate cahnge will cause more than a third of the earth's animals and plalnt species to face extinction by 2050 and up to 70% by the end of the century. this will diminish biodiversity, severely disrupt ecosystems and cause immense hardship for human socities worldwide.

You''ve done a good job in presenting some of your taught about how we can reduce global warming. Just want to add though that we must also teach others about the effect of global warming. That means "education". Educating other people. Through education, we may open-up others peoples mind about the bigger picture on global warming.

Another thing is self-change. Change should always begin within oneself before he/she can change others. Its a common fact of life which I think is also applies to global warming.

The government had lot to do with this also. If they only enforced laws effectively about global warming, then maybe, we can ease up the burden being carried out by mother nature. Our local government is taking up some steps in implementing the ban of plastic bags in our community. Many hate it at first, but as the law is strictly implemented, all had to abide with it. Its one way of doing the first step and I hope that other laws would be passed and strictly implemented. Other communities and local municipalities are going for it now. And in years to come, how I wish not to see a single plastic bag floating in rivers and seas. Hope it will happen in our life-time though.
