Manger Predicts the Danger Signs

January 01, 2013  by: Paulose  Points: 12   Category: Inspirational Stories    Views: 510

Manger has been the inseparable symbol of Christmas. It is the humble place where the divine Baby was laid down on this earth- because he was not given a proper place to be born. Does the “manger birth” predicts the danger to the children of the modern world? Manger is not a Mayan Calendar to predict the “Doomsday”. But it DOES PREDICT the dangers the children face in the “technologically advanced” modern world.

Manger is not a Mayan Calendar to predict the “Doomsday”. But it DOES PREDICT the dangers the children face in the “technologically advanced” modern world.

Does the “manger birth” mean that there will be no place for babies in the modern world? Does it mean that they will have no proper feeding? Does it mean that they will be shot dead like animals by the modern “gun culture”? does it mean that they will be killed in the wombs of mothers and thrown out not allowing them to be born on this earth? Does the “manger” predict the dangers to birth of babies and the way how the world is going to treat children?

Joseph and Mary were forced by the government laws to go to Bethlehem for census enumeration. Then they were forced outside Bethlehem to give birth to the “expected Messiah”. The busy society did not bother to help them. The busy people of Bethlehem were not moved at the pitiable condition of a woman at her advanced delivery time. There was no place “even in the inn”. They were, in a way, forced to seek an abandoned place in the outskirts of Bethlehem. Gospel of Luke describes the Christmas story, in which Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born and laid in a manger.

What is a manger?

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the meaning of the word manger as a trough or open box in a stable designed to hold feed or fodder for livestock. A manger is a place in which feed for livestock is placed.

Does the manger predict the future feeding of children?

Does the manger signify how the dignity of human birth is going to be degraded? Does it show that millions of babies will be underfed, will experience malnutrition and will have to undergo the discriminations of disparities of haves and have-nots?

Does the manger foretell the massacre of Herod?

The shepherds, the wise men and some people of Bethlehem came to know about the strange birth of the baby Jesus. Herod also came to know about his birth. Reactions after knowing it were different. Herod was much “troubled” and ordered to kill all the new born babies. Does the manger predict such kind of killings? Does it predict that babies may be killed even in the wombs of their moms? Does it predict that children may be killed as animals at the whims and fancies of merciless humans- in “gun shooting”, etc.?

Manger predicts also positive solutions

What have been stated above may seem to be negative predictions of manger. But the the manger does give solutions to all its negative predictions. Manger is the feeding place for all animals. They share whatever is there. No selfishness or greed is found among the participants there.

In short, the manger gives us the great message of love and sharing. Sharing what we have in true greedless love can solve problems. It can save many lives. Jesus, the baby of Bethlehem manger, gives positive solutions through his divine word.
