Chopping a Tree with Fingernails

January 05, 2013  by: Paulose  Points: 15   Category: Inspirational Stories    Views: 497

An Indian saying in Sanskrit says that it is not wise to chop with the fingernails, when it needs to be chopped with an axe. We have to tackle everything with proper preparation and with proper weapons.

Using appropriate resources is makes any attempt successful. We have to calculate the strength of the opponent whom we are going to face before we tackle him. Otherwise our attempt will become a failure and a waste.

Chopping a tree with the fingernails

There is a saying in the Indian language Sanskrit that means it is not wise to chop with the fingernails when it needs to be chopped with an axe. Suppose you are in a forest with your friends. You plan to have a campfire. You go down to cut a tree. Your friend picks up an axe and gets ready. But You sharpen your fingernails to join the work. Will it be wise? How can you tell your friends, “Hey, look I am cutting the tree with my fingernails.”? Will they not mock at you?

Ready with proper resources

Do not underestimate the situation you are going to face. You have to provide sufficient resources for your task. Unless you are ready to assign proper resources and necessary things, there is no point in doing the task which is certain to end in a waste. Every task needs sufficient preparation and planning.

There is a proverb in Tamil language which means you have to coax a cow to milk it if it is of that nature and you have to be harsh with a cow if it gives milk only when it is kicked. Every task needs a typical way of treatment. You cannot feed a crane in a plate and a fox in a narrow-necked jug. Each one needs special way of treatment which has to be studied.

How to deal with situations?

Jesus Christ mentions about calculating before starting any work. Jesus says, "For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.' Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace."(Luke 14:28-32)

It is not wise to retreat once you begin a task. This shows that you are not committed to your task. Every action of your life needs such calculation. Proper attention and perseverance and use of proper resources are needed for a successful performance.
