Can ‘slow and steady’ win in blogging?

January 20, 2013  by: Abhijit Bangal  Points: 8   Category: Blogging  Earning $0.15   Views: 1391

They say slow and steady wins the race. But can this be a universal statement in this fast-paced world, especially in blogging?

I have myself practiced how to be slow and yet be steady in blogging and I must admit the patience has paid off for me as well. I nurtured my blog for more than two years. In these two years, it was only during the last 3-4 months that I was a bit serious about my online earning. For months together, I did not have even a single ad at the top of the page.
However, that helped me build a readership. It was only when a knowledgeable person in the field of blogging advised me to have ads up on the page that I changed the format and layout a bit. That indeed helped me earn some more bucks and that too faster. I later experimented with some more layouts and the revenue kept increasing.

But then, after the Google updates in Panda and Penguin, my blog took a beating like many other blogs and web sites. That made me less interested in posting to my own blogs. But then it gave me a lot of practical knowledge that books and courses might not have taught me. I am now able to use the same knowledge elsewhere and I am really happy that the efforts paid off in some way or the other.

Coming back to the question if it would be wise being ‘slow and steady’, it has two answers – yes and no. This is a fast-paced world and there is no room for the slow. Those who are freelancing or ghost-writing for others will know the importance of time. Time is money for these people and that is a practical truth no one can deny.

One has to take quick steps in reporting certain news or when it comes to sticking to deadlines. There is no excuse and ‘do or die’, ‘perform or perish’ is the mantra today.
But when it comes to consistency, there is no option to being steady. Your readership will grow steadily and it will take even more time to turn these readers into returning loyal readers. It will take time for your image to build up in the blogosphere. There are a hundred more things that will indeed take time and scampering through won’t help a bit.
