My foster daughter Liza got married two weeks ago. Since then my house is in chaos. The kitchen looks dirty. The yard is covered with fallen leaves from the mango and jack fruit trees. Five chickens have died since she went to her husband's house about 250 km away. The younger children cannot get ready for their school in time. And I cannot leave them at home whenever I wish. They may hurt themselves or may begin to fight for silly things. With Liza around I did not have to worry about them.

I became the foster father of this family when Liza was eleven years old. She was taken in when parents died. She came from a village of Santhal (aborigine) tribe. She went to a local school. After reaching standard VIII she dropped out. She was admitted in a vocational training school. She learnt tailoring and dress designing. But what made me proud was that she grew up to be a mature and confident girl. She patiently acquired the skills necessary for being a good housewife. She cooked the food every day. She looked after the many chickens kept for eggs. She took care of the family and children extremely well. She also taught them their lessons in the evenings. She was a pillar of patience.

She had an exceptional sense of aesthetics. Every time a guest visited our organization or there were celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries, it was Liza who prepared beautiful bouquets of flowers and leaves. She was a good actor, eloquent speaker and proficient story teller. She enthralled the Archbishop, guest priests and spectators in the parish church jubilee celebration with her acting abilities.

I do not know how the vacuum left after her departure will be filled. Still, I am happy to be a person who helped build up Liza for her future. May God bless her and give her a happy married life.
