In terms of number of diabetic patients, India tops the chart in the world with more than 40 million diabetic patients. It is estimated that another 30 million are likely to be added to in the list in the near future. The common form of diabetes is Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is mainly caused due to our present lifestyle exercises like over eating and over resting. Genes also play a role in type 2 diabetes. If any of your family members has diabetes, take it as a warning and take preventive measures.

When you are diagnosed with diabetes, the weight should be controlled. Obesity is a main cause for type 2 diabetes. It has been estimated that sixty percent of a person's fitness depends on food. So small dietary changes make a huge difference. Obesity is due to the accumulation of fat. While some fats are bad, all are not. To keep the diet balanced, you need to have the required amount of fat in your diet. Fat ingestion should be limited to around 30% of your total calorie intake.

Sugar cravings should also be controlled after diagnosis. At first it will be difficult to completely cut out sugar. If you can't drink tea or coffee without sugar, you can resort to sugar substitutes. Sugar substitutes are not the best option but they are still better than sugar. You don't need to worry that you have to cut out your entire favourite food items. You can still have fish, eggs and meat. Consult your dietician for the exact amount of intake of these food items. You may already know that Omega - 3 fatty acids found in fish are good for the heart. Always avoid sweetened aerated cold drinks, pizzas and burgers. These junk foods are poisons for a diabetic patient.

It is also to be noted that you should be able to recognize the foods that could shoot up the body sugar levels and you should limit them. Limit carbohydrate intake. Choose fruits which can help to control blood sugar level like apples, berries, papaya etc. But fruit juices should be avoided. You can drink milk but make sure that it is a low fat one. Keep your food whole - whole grains, whole fruits, vegetables, pulses etc. Whole foods are capable of providing fibre, which slows down the hunger and helps easy passing of food through the alimentary canal.

Rather than having 3 full meals every day, it is advisable to have small, frequent portion to keep the blood sugar level under control. Some of the food items that can be included in your diet include spinach, cucumber, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, greens, tomatoes, onions, cauliflower, radish, peas etc. Nuts like almonds are good but only a handful should be consumed in every day.

The best exercise to keep type 2 diabetes under control is walking. Every day you should walk at least for 30 minutes with brisk paces. Walking will also help to keep you in shape and help control weight. Consult your doctor and follow the diet and exercise plan given by him for the mentioned period. By having complete control over your food habits, you can easily keep diabetes under control.

Diabetic patients never eat too much of food especially rice and sweet items. It will increase the level of glucose in their body. Doing exercise is must for diabetic patients. Exercise can reduce the level of glucose. Taking rest is very urgent for human being. But taking over rest is not good for our body especially for those who have diabetics.
